US District Judge Jed Rakoff sentenced avid Trump supporter Cesar Sayoc to 20 years in prison for sending pipe bombs to several Democratic Party leaders, supporters, and CNN. After serving his 20 year sentence, Mr. Sayoc will have to complete five years of supervised release.
Sayoc could have received a life sentence but because none of his bombs detonated, the judge gave him a lighter sentence.
During sentencing, Rakoff said, “He hated his victims, he wished them no good, but he was not so lost as to wish them dead, at least not by his own hand.”
Last October, Sayoc sent 16 EIDs to President Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Sens. Cory Booker and Kamala Harris, Robert De Niro, George Soros and Tom Steyer.
Sayoc addressed the Court during his sentencing hearing and stated the following:
“I am beyond so very sorry for what I did. “Now that I am a sober man, I know I was a very sick man. I should have listened to my mother, the love of my life. She told me to get help. I am so very sorry to all the victims … I will be apologizing to them for the rest of my life,”
