Liveblog - Impeachment Updates: 10-17-19

  • Majority Leader Mitch McConnell told Republican senators Wednesday to be ready for an impeachment trial of President Trump as soon as Thanksgiving, as the Senate began to brace for a political maelstrom that would engulf the nation.
  • U.S. diplomat Gordon Sondland is expected to tell House lawmakers on Thursday that President Trump directed administration officials to work with his attorney, Rudy Giuliani, on Ukraine matters, according to his prepared remarks for testimony as part of the Democrats’ impeachment inquiry.
  • Energy Secretary Rick Perry said President Trump directed him to discuss Ukraine corruption concerns with Rudy Giuliani
  • A little lesson for the Wing Nuts on how this all works-brought to you by Fox & Friends. They did the whole broken clock thing this morning:
“The Republicans changed the rules when John Boehner was the Speaker of the House allowing each individual committee to issue subpoenas without a House-wide vote,” he explained. “So those subpoenas are valid, and those people who resist them, ignore them, who put them in a drawer, do so at your peril.”

“If you get a subpoena that asks you for something that you don’t think you have to produce, you have to challenge the subpoena,” he said. “You can’t ignore it.”
