White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney acknowledges that military aid was withheld from Ukraine over Trump’s desire to investigate allegations of assistance to Democrats in the 2016 election by foreign countries.
“Did he also mention to me in [the] past the corruption related to the DNC server? Absolutely,” Mulvaney said of a conversation he had with Trump. “No question about that. But that’s it, and that’s why we held up the money.”
When asked if he was describing a quid pro quo with Ukraine, he added that “we do that all the time with foreign policy,” and suggested the US has done that with other countries (Northern Triangle) in order to influence immigration policy. He also insisted that the money held up had nothing to do with Joe or Hunter Biden.
