Rapper T.I. takes his 18 year old daughter to the gynecologist for yearly hymen checks

"The hymen means nothing physically and hymen exams are medically not a thing and are unnecessary," gynecologist Jennifer Gunter said.

In an interview with Ladies Like Us with Nazanin and Nadia, rapper and actor T.I. (Clifford Harris) claimed that each year, he takes his 18 year old daughter to the gynecologist to make sure her hymen is still intact.

When the hosts asked the rapper if he has had the “sex talks” with his daughters, T.I. responded: “Yes. Not only have we had the conversation. We have yearly trips to the gynecologist to check her hymen.”

“Yes, I go with her,” T.I. also said, referring to Deyjah. After her 16th birthday party, he said he “put a sticky note” on her door that read, “Gyno. Tomorrow. 9:30.” He then recounts a gynecologist visit.

“So we’ll go and sit down and the doctor will come and talk, and the doctor’s maintaining a high level of professionalism,” T.I. said. “He’s like, ‘Well, you know, sir, I have to, in order to share information’ — I’m like, ‘Deyjah, they want you to sign this, so we can share information. Is there anything you would not want me to know? Oh OK. See, doc? Ain’t no problem.'”

NBC:

Doctors have informed T.I. that other issues can break a hymen besides sexual intercourse such as, bike and horseback riding , and other physical activity.

T.I. claimed he told the doctor his daughter does not participate in any of those activities and is proud to announce, his daughter’s hymen remains intact.

In a series of tweets, Jennifer Gunter, a gynecologist and New York Times contributor, disputed T.I.’s remarks.

More tweets about the hymen can be found on Dr. Gunter’s Twitter homepage.
