What to expect: House Judiciary Committee hearing into the impeachment of Trump

Wednesday will start the House Judiciary Committee’s hearings into the impeachment of Donald J. Trump. News Views will host a Live Discussion and provide a link for you to watch online, if you choose.

The Democratic Party released their witness list:

  • Four constitutional, legal experts.
  • Noah Feldman, Pamela S. Karlan, Michael Gerhardt, and Jonathan Turle.
  • Professors at: Harvard, Stanford, North Carolina and George Washington university law schools, respectively.

CNN:

The hearing will focus on “the framework put in place to respond to serious allegations of impeachable misconduct like those against President Trump.”

The witnesses will explain Article Two, Section 4 of the Constitution, which states a president can be “removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.” Treason and bribery are well defined — high crimes and misdemeanors less so.

It might not make for a blockbuster hearing, but House Democrats seem to want to generate a common understanding of that definition as members of the Judiciary Committee work to draft articles of impeachment; these will be written up based on the findings of the House Intelligence Committee, which took the lead on the first phase of the inquiry.

VOX:

Members of the House Judiciary Committee include the following:

The hearing will begin at 10:00 AM ET/7:00 AM PT.

A quick glance at the stellar Republicans on this committee, indicates we’re going to see and hear some weird stuff.

Who will be Trump' running mate?
