Congress not too happy about Iran briefing; House will bring forth vote to limit Trump’s war-making powers

House Democrats emerged from a classified briefing Wednesday deeply skeptical of President Donald Trump’s decision to order the killing of a top Iranian leader and are unconvinced that he posed an “imminent” threat to any United States forces.

Shortly afterwards, Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced the House would vote on Thursday to limit Trump’s war-making powers — likely presenting a united Democrat front against the administration’s recent moves against Iran.

“There was no raw evidence presented that this was an imminent threat,” Congressional Progressive Caucus co-chair Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) told reporters after the briefing.

Sens. Mike Lee (R-Utah) and Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said that they would back a War Powers Resolution brought by Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) in the Senate, with a frustrated Lee calling it the “worst briefing” he’s been to and blasting officials for instructing senators not to debate the strike on Soleimani.
