Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said on Thursday that the coronovirus outbreak could bring jobs back to the U.S. and Mexico.
“Well, first of all, every American’s heart has to go out to the victims of the coronavirus. So, I don’t want to talk about a victory lap over a very unfortunate, very malignant disease,” Ross told Fox Business Network on Thursday. “But the fact is, it does give businesses yet another thing to consider when they go through their review of their supply chain.”
“It’s another risk factor that people need to take into account. So, I think it will help to accelerate the return of jobs to North America. Some to U.S., probably some to Mexico, as well.”
As of Thursday, there were 7,700 cases of the virus as death tolls in China have reached 170.
VP Mike Pence says the United States stands ready to help the people of China deal with the outbreak.
And the IMPOTUS tweeted that U.S. experts are on top of it 24/7, and that he appreciates China working hard to contain the virus.
“The United States greatly appreciates their efforts and transparency,” he said. “It will all work out well. In particular, on behalf of the American People, I want to thank President Xi!”
