Finnish symphonic metal band has been around since 1997, the band has undergone several changes in their line-up and are currently consisting of Tuomas Holopainen (keyboard), Kai Hahto (drums), Marco Hietala (bass, guitar, vocals), Emppu Vuorinen (guitar), Troy Donockley (Uillean pipes, guitar, recorder, vocals) and Floor Jansen (lead vocalist).
Their music is predominantly composed by Tuomas Holopainen and wide variety of styles ranging from highly lyrical symphonic compositions to hard gothic and power metal.
The band is hugely popular in Europe (concerts of 80.000+), South America, Oceania. In the United States however they only seem to be playing small venues.
Holopainen’ work has been heavily influenced by poets such as Walt Whitman and evolutionary themes by biologist Richard Dawkins.
