Critically Ill Coronavirus Patients Can Now Be Treated With Survivors’ Blood

The Food and Drug Administration announced Tuesday new emergency protocols allowing allowing the plasma of those who’ve recovered from the novel coronavirus to treat patients who are critically ill with COVID-19.

According to the FDA, it is possible that this convalescent plasma contains antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 that might be effective in treating patients with COVID-19.

Doctors in China have used the treatment, and was also used in the 1918 Spanish Flu.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo stressed that it’s only a trial, and will be used for those who are in serious condition.
