BAD AXE, Michigan

About 6:10 p.m. on Friday, May 1, Huron County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the shooting scene within Duggan’s Family Campground at 2941 Port Austin Road in Hume Township. They arrived to see a 49-year-old being loaded into a Thumb EMS ambulance to be taken to an area hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to his left wrist.

Deputies determined the man and a 24-year-old Warren man had just finished raking leaves and had walked over to a table. As the younger man was leaning over the table, his 9mm handgun apparently was about to fall from its holster.

The two men tried to get the gun before it completely fell from the holster, but in the shuffle, the gun accidentally discharged, reported Sheriff Kelly J. Hanson. The blast blew the victim’s watch off as the bullet exited his wrist, the sheriff added.
