The Ohio man was charged with negligent assault, a third-degree misdemeanor.
It seems that the man’s girlfriend was sitting on the couch watching a movie on TV when she was shot.
According to the police report, the woman’s boyfriend told police the two were on the couch when he decided to clean his firearm. He told officers he removed the magazine from the gun, but when he pulled the trigger to uncock the gun, he did not know there was a bullet in the chamber.
Police say everything is consistent with an “accidental” shooting.
Officers observed entry and exit wounds on both of the woman’s thighs. The responding officers applied a tourniquet on the woman’s legs to stop the bleeding, and Barberton Fire took over medical treatment after they arrived, according to the report. She was later transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General.
In addition to bullet holes in the women’s thighs, there were holes in the couch, a laptop, and a TV.
Ohio man admitted to drinking some whiskey.
The woman was treated and released from the hospital.
