A CNN camera crew and reporter was arrested by State Police in Minneapolis just after 5:00 a.m. CT today.
Omar Jiminez and crew were handcuffed and detained as they were reporting live from a Minneapolis street following a night of protests.
Police told the crew they were being detained because they were told to move and didn’t. Jiminez showed his press badge identifying himself as a reporter and told officers they would move wherever officers wanted them to.
“A CNN reporter and his production team were arrested this morning in Minneapolis for doing their jobs, despite identifying themselves — a clear violation of their First Amendment rights. The authorities in Minnesota, including the Governor, must release the three CNN employees immediately,” CNN said in a statement.
