Trump escorted off stage by Secret Service amid shooting near White House

Man, Secret Service Officer Taken To Hospital Following Shooting Near White House

A man and a U.S. Secret Service officer were taken to a D.C. hospital following a shooting near the White House Monday evening, the agency said.

The Secret Service said a “male subject” and a Secret Service officer were taken to the hospital. The suspect may have serious or critical injuries. The condition of the officer and the nature of their injuries was not immediately released.

The suspect was transferred to a local hospital, and the District of Columbia fire department said the man suffered serious or possibly critical injuries. Authorities were investigating whether the individual has a history of mental illness.

A reporter asked Trump if the Secret Service took him to the bunker, which Trump replied, ‘no.’ They took him to the Oval Office instead.
