It’s 5:00 Somewhere

Living through a pandemic for over a year has given me an opportunity to begin appreciating more wine, and I’m fortunate enough to have a four generation family winery near me whose delivery drivers are familiar with my front porch.

(And, no, that’s NOT my delivery!)

I recently read about a few celebrities investing in their own wines and distilleries, though, and after looking around a bit I see several VIPs who are willing to put their name on or behind a bottle.

The closest I’ve been to a celebrity winery was Ciccone Vineyards in northern Michigan and owned by Madonna’s father.

(No signs of Madonna anywhere except over the mantel.)

Fergie has her name on Ferguson Crest from the Santa Ynez Valley; Boz Scaggs has Scagg Vineyard in Napa Valley; Wayne Gretzky #99 Estates is in Niagara, Ontario; Drew’s Barrymore Wines partner with Carmel Road Winery.

Cameron Diaz is a co-founder of Avaline, a vegan-friendly wine made with organic grapes.

And Mr. Gin and Juice wouldn’t be the first name I’d consider behind a bottle of wine, but Snoop Dogg is the big canine behind an Australian brand 19 Crimes Cali Red, and a Cali Rose — which gets its name from the fact that, in the 1700s, British criminals convicted of at least one of 19 crimes were sentenced to live in Australia instead of facing death.

And this doesn’t discount Kim Crawford, Josh (something-something), Robert Mondavi, and not in the least Francis Ford and Sofia Coppola as celebrities defined by their own famous name wines………

Whether you like white or red, both, or neither………it’s 5:00 somewhere, and I’d suggest you raise a glass of anything (except bleach or disinfectant!!) that quenches your Friday thirst, and enjoy your weekend!

Cheers!
