GOP Senators block sweeping voting rights bill

As usual, the GQP blocked legislation that would have countered ‘recent restrictive state measures pursued in Republican-led states.’ For the Peoples Act would have prevented Republican-led states from implementing “a slew of new voting restrictions that civil rights groups fear could suppress the vote for marginalized groups and make it harder to vote overall.”

The bill needed 60 votes to needed to overcome a GOP filibuster. The final vote tally was 50-50.
