California doctor arrested for selling fake COVID pills, providing fake immunization cards

The Department of Justice raided Dr. Juli A. Mazi, 41, of Napa, CA’s office, arrested her, and charged her with one count of wire fraud and one count of false statements related to health care matters. Dr. Mazi is a licensed naturopathic doctor who allegedly preyed off of people’s fears and spread misinformation about the deadly coronavirus, COVID-19. She allegedly sold people homeoprophylaxis immunization pellets and falsified ‘COVID-19 vaccination cards by making it appear that customers received the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized Moderna vaccine.’

According to CBS SF Bay Area:

Mazi was investigated after a complaint to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services from a person whose family members purchased products from her in April. According to court documents, the complainant said Mazi told family members her homeprophylaxis pellets contained the COVID-19 virus and would create an antibody response in their immune systems.

Mazi also offered homeoprophylaxis immunizations for childhood illnesses that she falsely claimed would satisfy the immunization requirements for California schools, and falsified immunization cards that were submitted by parents to California schools.

If convicted, Mazi faces a maximum 20 years in prison for the wire fraud charge and five years for the false statements charge. Each charge also carries a maximum $250,000 fine and three years of supervised release.
