First Rep. Devin Nunes tried suing two, anonymous Twitter handles “Devin Nunes’ Cow” and “Devin Nunes’ Mom” for saying mean things about him, now he’s gone bigly and has filed suit against NBC, specifically, Rachel Maddow. (Nunes v. NBCUniversal Media LLC, 21-cv-608, U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Texas)
In his suit, Nunes alleges ‘Rachel Maddow defamed him with on-air suggestions he’d conspired with a Russian agent to rig the 2016 presidential election for’ the Former Guy (TFG) and has ‘repeatedly targeted him with defamatory statements that accuse him of obstruction of justice and treason. Nunes said Maddow has also called for him to lose his committee post and be stripped of his security clearances.’
“MSNBC and Maddow harbor an institutional hostility, hatred, extreme bias, spite and ill-will towards plaintiff due to plaintiff’s emergence as the most prominent skeptic in Congress of Maddow’s marquee news narrative from 2017 to 2019: that the Trump campaign colluded with Russians to hack the 2016 presidential elections,” Nunes’ lawyers said in the complaint.
Nunes does not specify an exact dollar amount he wants to receive for the bigly damages he suffered but he did request a jury compensate him for “insult, pain, embarrassment, humiliation, mental suffering and injury to his reputation.”
Besides two anonymous, Twitter handles, Nunes had also filed previous suits against CNN, the Washington Post, Esquire and McClatchy — which owns the largest newspaper in his home district.
