Don’t Get Excited Though
The Republican leader is fully vaccinated and was not experiencing any symptoms after testing positive, according to Mark Miner, a spokesman for Abbott.
“Everyone that the Governor has been in close contact with today has been notified,” Miner said in a statement.
Abbott has been taking daily tests for the virus and received his first positive result today. Miner said he is receiving Regeneron’s monoclonal antibody treatment and plans to isolate at the Governor’s Mansion.
His wife, Cecilia Abbott, tested negative.
The governor has forbidden local authorities across the state such as school boards and county governments from instituting coronavirus restrictions to slow the spread of the virus, which the Texas Supreme Court upheld earlier this week. Case counts in Texas are spiking due to the virus’ more contagious Delta variant.
