Proud Boys hold a hatefest at a shuttered KMart parking lot; gunfire erupts in Downtown Portland

The Proud Boys gathered for a hatefest ironically named, the “Summer of Love” event, in a parking lot of a shuttered KMart in NE Portland. Shortly after the event began, Antifa showed up and the two groups began to brawl and throw stuff at one another. Members of the Proud Boys can be seen vandalizing cars, flipping over a medical van, and shooting paintballs at onlookers. They even smoked bombed themselves in midst of their mayhem.

The event was initially scheduled to happen in the downtown area ‘but event organizers on Friday posted to social media that the event has relocated, and that the new location will be announced Sunday morning.’ During an afternoon press conference on Friday, Mayor Ted Wheeler told residents not to expect to see a police presence.

“We are dedicated to keeping the peace. Our ask is simple: We are asking you to choose love,” Mayor Ted Wheeler said during a Friday afternoon press conference. “People should not necessarily expect to see the police standing in the middle of the crowd trying to keep people apart. People need to keep themselves apart and avoid physical confrontation.”

Later in the evening, Zane Sparling with the Portland Tribune was downtown and caught what appears to be a man shooting a handgun. Portland Police Bureau said officers followed the direction the suspect went and arrested Dennis G. Anderson, 65, of Gresham. Police seized a gun from Anderson and he was booked in the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful use of a weapon. Thankfully, no one was hurt or killed.
