Parkland shooter pleads guilty to 17 counts of first-degree murder

Nikolas Cruz accused of gunning down 17 classmates at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in 2018 has pleaded guilty to 17 counts of first-degree murder and numerous accounts of attempted murder. A jury will later decide whether to sentence the gunman to death or life in prison.

During the hearing, as several parents shook their heads, the defendant apologized, saying, “I’m very sorry for what I did. … I can’t live with myself sometimes.” He also added that he wished it was up to the survivors to determine whether he lived or died.
