CDC Director Gives Green Light to Moderna and J&J Booster Shots Plus ‘Mixing and Matching’ brands

On Thursday, CDC Director Rochelle Walensky gave the final green for both Moderna and Johnson and Johnson to start offering COVID-19 booster shots to certain populations. Those eligible for a booster shot will also get to choose which brand they want to receive.

“These recommendations are another example of our fundamental commitment to protect as many people as possible from COVID-19. The evidence shows that all three COVID-19 vaccines authorized in the United States are safe – as demonstrated by the over 400 million vaccine doses already given. And, they are all highly effective in reducing the risk of severe disease, hospitalization, and death, even in the midst of the widely circulating Delta variant,” she said in a statement.

All brands of the COVID-19 booster shot will first be administered to people over the age of 65 or t”hose as young as 18 who are at higher risk due to their underlying health conditions, or where they work or live.” It is recommended that people who qualify for a booster shot get one six months after their last shot.
