A ridiculous claim made at a school board meeting in Midland, Michigan, on December 20 was promoted by Michigan GOP Co-chair Meshawn Maddock, accusing Midland Public Schools of providing litter boxes to students who identify as “furries.”
A furry is defined as “a person who identifies with and enjoys dressing as an animal especially as a member of a subculture devoted to the practice.”
Meshawn Maddock, Trumper wingnut, Michigan GOP co-chair, and signatory of a fake elector document for the state of Michigan promoted the conspiracy theory on her Facebook page.
Superintendent Michael E. Sharrow of Midland Public Schools wrote in an e-mail to parents refuting the claims:
“It is unconscionable that this afternoon I am sending this communication,” Sharrow wrote. “However, our Midland PS stakeholders may be confused about a false message/accusation that has resurfaced this week and is gaining traction in the social media realm.”
According to Sharrow, a rumor has spread “that litter boxes were provided within MPS student restrooms for those who identify themselves as ‘furries.’”
“Let me be clear in this communication. There is no truth whatsoever to the this false statement / accusation! There have never been litter boxes within MPS schools.”
“It is a source of disappointment that I felt the necessity to communicate this message to you.”
