As most has-beens do, the disgraced, former Speaker of The House, Newton Leroy Gingrich took to Fox ‘News’ to opine that members of the Jan. 6 House select committee investigating the January 6, 2021 attack against the U.S. Capitol could face jail time if the GOP returns to power. It’s worth noting that Newton has been working behind the scenes with Q-evin McQarthy on how to retake the House in 2022.
“You’re going to have a Republican majority in the House and a Republican majority in the Senate. And all of these people who have been so tough and so mean and so nasty are going to be delivered subpoenas,” Gingrich said, adding the lawmakers heading up the commission are “just running over the law.”
“And I think when you have a Republican Congress, this is all going to come crashing down,” he continued. “And the wolves are going to find out they are now sheep and they’re the ones who are going to face a real risk of, I think, jail for the kind of laws they’re breaking.”
The Hill:
Not once in his rant does Newton mention what laws the committee broke. Nor, does Newt tell TFG’s Cult/Foxbots that Congress does not ‘jail’ people; that’s up to prosecutors.
The two Republicans on the select committee each tweeted a response to Newton’s absurdity:
