West Virginia Governor Holds Up Dog’s Butt For His Critics to Kiss

West Virginia Governor Jim Justice held up his bulldog’s butt for Bette Midler to kiss because she called out West Virginians as “poor, illiterate, and strung out” in response to the West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin refusing to vote for the Build Back Better bill.

The 70-year-old Republican governor called out Midler at the end of his State of the State address on Thursday by lifting the dog up in the air, and saying, “Babydog tells Bette Midler and all those out there: Kiss her heinie.”

West Virginia Democrat Shawn Fluharty called the governor’s move “embarrassing and beneath the office.”

“The @WVGovernor brought his Babydog and pony show to the State of the State and pulled this stunt as some bold statement. It was nothing short of embarrassing and beneath the office,” he said. “Jim Justice habitually lowers the bar of our state. They don’t laugh with us, but at us.”

Midler had received backlash after her outburst and apologized. After the governor’s dog and pony show at the State of the State address, Midler seemed to have second thoughts about West Virginia.

Midler also retweeted another thought about the West Virginia governor.
