3 officers found guilty on federal charges in George Floyd’s killing
Three former Minneapolis police officers have been found guilty of violating the civil rights of George Floyd, a Black man whose death at the hands of police in 2020 spurred protests against systemic racism around the world.
The former officers, J. Alexander Kueng, Thomas Lane and Tou Thao, were charged with depriving Floyd of his civil rights while acting under government authority. Kueng and Thao faced an additional charge of not intervening to stop their fellow officer, Derek Chauvin, from using excessive force. They had pleaded not guilty.
Thao, Kueng and Lane each face up to life in prison, though such a severe punishment is unlikely. A state trial is scheduled for June against the men on charges of aiding and abetting murder and manslaughter.

CPAC-Fascist Fest 2022:
During the first day of speeches at the 2022 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Florida, Governor Ron DeSantis railed against the media and “authoritarian regimes,” singling out Australia and Canada for their COVID restrictions, while not once mentioning the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine.
DeSantis spoke for about 20 minutes on Thursday afternoon, accusing the media of propping up the “regime” of President Joe Biden and criticizing the “woke” Left and the “authoritarian regimes” of Democrat-run states. The Florida governor and reported potential 2024 Republican presidential candidate walked to the podium tossing hats into the crowd before he began his speech by welcoming the crowd to the “freest state” in the U.S.
