Liveblog - The Russia-Ukraine Conflict and In Case You Missed It: March 03, 2022

This week, we will combine both blogs, In Case You Missed It and the Russia-Ukraine Conflict. Please feel free to share any headlines we may have missed or new developments occurring in Ukraine or Russia providing they come from reliable and credible sources. We won’t accept any parroted, Russian propaganda from far-right ‘news’ sources unless you’re trying to point out that the far-right extremist in our country and elsewhere actually believe their own BS or Russian disinformation. We also ask that you provide a link to your source so folks can read it if they want.

Keep in mind, this is not a free chat. Please keep friendly banter to a minimum, thank you.

Ukraine says pact reached with Russia to create safe corridors backed by cease-fires for evacuations, aid: Live updates

Ukraine said it has agreed with Russia to create safe corridors backed by cease-fires to evacuate civilians and deliver aid as a second round of negotiations began Thursday amid Russia’s ferocious assault on its neighbor.

Officials from both nations are meeting in Belarus as the war entered its second week. Russian President Vladimir Putin has demanded Ukraine accept “demilitarization,” declare itself neutral and drop its bid to join NATO.

Meet the American teen tracking Russian oligarchs’ jets

Jack Sweeney first attracted public attention after starting a Twitter account devoted to tracking Tesla founder Elon Musk’s private plane. Now the teenage college student has a new pet project involving another set of billionaires: publicizing the movements of private jets owned by Russian oligarchs.

“It would be pretty cool to see one of their planes seized,” Sweeney, 19, told CBS MoneyWatch in discussing his Twitter account, @RUOligarchJets, or Russian Oligarch Jets.

Kremlin TV Tells Ukraine to Listen to Fox News Guest and Kneel to Putin

Speakers across Kremlin-funded media are voicing their dismay and disappointment with the worldwide condemnation of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Now more than ever, Fox News—with its endless stream of pro-Russia talking points—seems to be the only bright spot for Kremlin propagandists otherwise under siege by the West.

Tucker Carlson On Russian TV Again for Guest Comments Against Ukraine

Fox News host Tucker Carlson was featured on Russian state TV once again after Kremlin speakers told Ukraine to listen to Fox‘s pro-Russia talking points and surrender to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Kremlin-funded media outlets ran translated clips from Fox News‘ conversation between Carlson and retired Colonel Douglas Macgregor, who has consistently urged Ukraine to retreat and give in to Putin. Russian TV ran the clips pushing Kremlin propaganda.

Tucker Carlson backs Russian news channel RT and hits out at Canada for taking it off the air

Controversialist claims Democrats are ‘censoring opinions’ – gets Rt’d by RT

“They hate populist politics in this country far more than they hate Vladimir Putin,” he said. “So they’re using this opportunity, this war in eastern Europe, to shut down domestic dissent in the United States, and you’re seeing it as always in our allies first”.

“Several of them, including Canada, have banned journalists who don’t agree with their view of the war,” he alleged, inaccurately referencing Canada’s ban on RT.

“If we’re gonna protect democracy, that should start at home and democracy is defined – literally defined – by the tolerance of the regime for dissent. But no dissent is allowed. So, they’ve pulled RT from the air waves in Canada.”

Mitch McConnell tells Fox News viewers that Putin isn’t that great after all

Perhaps some small part of Tucker Carlson’s audience was listening

“What President Putin is is a ruthless thug who’s just invaded another sovereign country and killed thousands of innocent people,” McConnell replied. “That’s what President Putin is.”

“There should be no confusion about Vladimir Putin,” McConnell said. “Now, there’s been some confusion lately. He’s a thug. He’s a killer. He has been on the rampage and this will not end well for him.”

Asked if he thought Putin had changed, McConnell replied that “he’s been this all along.”
