At around 2 AM (PT) Sunday morning, some psychopath opened fire on people in the downtown area of Sacramento, CA. Authorities have confirmed that fifteen people have been shot and six people have died. No arrests have been made.
“Words can’t express my shock and sadness this morning,” said Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg. “The numbers of dead and wounded are difficult to comprehend. We await more information about exactly what transpired in this tragic incident rising gun violence is the scourge of our city, state and nation, and I support all actions to reduce it. Our new Police Chief, Kathy Lester, has made it a top priority, and I stand firmly behind her.”

Police provided few details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting but said in a tweet that a “large police presence will remain and the scene remains active.” Phone messages seeking comment were left with the Sacramento police. Residents were asked to avoid the area, which is packed with restaurants and bars that leads to the Golden 1 Center. The Blue Line light-rail system is operating a bus bridge between Globe and 13th Street Station, a spokeswoman for Sacramento Regional Transit said.
