Liveblog - The Russia-Ukraine Conflict and In Case You Missed It: April 6, 2022

We will continue to combine both blogs, In Case You Missed It and the Russia-Ukraine Conflict. Please feel free to share any headlines we may have missed or new developments occurring in Ukraine or Russia providing they come from reliable and credible sources. We won’t accept any parroted, Russian propaganda from far-right ‘news’ sources unless you’re trying to point out that the far-right extremist in our country and elsewhere actually believe their own BS or Russian disinformation. We also ask that you provide a link to your source so folks can read it if they want.

Keep in mind, this is not a free chat. Please keep friendly banter to a minimum. We also ask that you discuss the day’s topics or events but not argue endlessly with others about them; agree to disagree and move on thank you.

US Gun Violence:

Police: At least 5 gunmen involved in Sacramento shooting

Police said Wednesday that investigators believe at least five shooters were involved in the mass shooting in downtown Sacramento last weekend and that it was gang-related violence.

The Sacramento police department said in a statement that there was a gunfight between at least two groups of men.

“Evidence in the case indicates that at least five shooters fired guns during the shooting, and that an exchange of gunfire took place between at least two groups of men,” police said in an announcement Wednesday. “As detectives continue to identify shooters and weapons involved, the number of identified shooters may grow beyond five.

“As detectives learn more about the shootings, it is increasingly clear that gang violence is at the center of this tragedy. While we cannot at this time elaborate on the precise gang affiliation of individuals involved, gangs & gang violence are inseparable from the events that drove these shootings.”

Ex-Trump appointee advances in California U.S. House election

Connie Conway, a former state director of the USDA’s Farm Service Agency under Trump, has advanced to a June runoff in a special election to fill former Rep. Devin Nunes’ seat.

Because no candidate was able to claim a majority of the vote, a runoff between the top two finishers will coincide with the statewide primary election June 7.

***Note on California Elections: California Has a Top-Two Primary-

top-two primary is a type of primary election in which all candidates are listed on the same primary ballot. The top two vote-getters, regardless of their partisan affiliations, advance to the general election. Consequently, it is possible for two candidates belonging to the same political party to win in a top-two primary and face off in the general election
