Ted Cruz’ Latest Beef: Elmo From Sesame Street Encouraging Kids to Get Vaccinated

In the past, the radicalized right has attacked Big Bird, the color of M&Ms, Minnie Mouse for changing into a pantsuit, and other fictional characters for whatever reason they can conjure up. Now it appears Texas Senator Rafael (Ted) Cruz has a beef with Elmo from Sesame Street. Sesame Street just released a video of the high pitched, fluffy, three year old muppet Elmo talking with his dad Louie about getting his COVID-19 shot.

In the video, Louie explains his hesitations about getting his son vaccinated. After talking with Elmo’s pediatrician, Louie decides getting his son vaccinated is a good thing. Well, maybe not to Rafael Cruz.

Cruz tweeted about Elmo getting his jab and accused the muppet of “aggressively advocating for vaccinating children UNDER 5” and harping on Sesame Street for citing “ZERO scientific evidence.”

Last year, Cruz had a meltdown about Big Bird getting his jab:

In a statement Tuesday, Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit educational organization behind Sesame Street, said the public service advertisement featuring Elmo was produced in partnership with the CDC and the American Academy of Pediatrics. The clip, broadcast in English and in Spanish, is part of a series of resources for parents and caregivers “to answer common questions in age-appropriate ways,” the organization said.
