Liveblog - In Case You Missed It: July 11, 2022

With so much going on in our world, we sometimes miss important issues. Please feel free to share any headlines we may have missed or new developments providing they come from reliable and credible sources. We won’t accept any parroted, Russian propaganda from far-right ‘news’ sources unless you’re trying to point out that the far-right extremist in our country and elsewhere actually believe their own BS or Russian disinformation. Nor, will we except any parroted far-right BS regarding issues occurring here, at home. We also ask that you provide a link to your source so folks can read it if they want. Please do not make any claims that you cannot factually validate or verify.

Sen. Lindsey Graham ordered to testify in front of special grand jury in Trump election probe

A Fulton County judge has ordered U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham to testify in front of a special grand jury looking into possible election tampering by former President Donald Trump in the November 2020 election.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney ruled Monday that Graham will be required to testify on Aug. 2 after Graham said he would fight a subpoena to testify, citing executive privilege.

The Worst People in the World:

****MAGAt World has their panties in a bunch because they cannot identify nor confirm the story about a 10-year old rape victim who had to travel to Indiana to terminate her pregnancy. Like pretty much everything else, they do not know how things really work. One would think that an alleged ex-cop would know how criminal investigations work and about protecting the identity of rape victims but, they never fail to disappoint us on just how truly ignorant they are.

A one-source story about a 10-year-old and an abortion goes viral

On July 1, the Indianapolis Star, also known as the IndyStar, published an article, written by the newspaper’s medical writer, about how women seeking abortions had begun traveling from Ohio to Indiana, where less restrictive abortion laws were still in place. “Patients head to Indiana for abortion services as other states restrict care,” the article was headlined.

The only source cited for the anecdote was Bernard. She’s on the record, but there is no indication that the newspaper made other attempts to confirm her account. The story’s lead reporter, Shari Rudavsky, did not respond to a query asking whether additional sourcing was obtained. A Gannett spokeswoman provided a comment from Bro Krift, the newspaper’s executive editor: “The facts and sourcing about people crossing state lines into Indiana, including the 10-year-old girl, for abortions are clear. We have no additional comment at this time.”

The Bottom Line

This is a very difficult story to check. Bernard is on the record, but obtaining documents or other confirmation is all but impossible without details that would identify the locality where the rape occurred.
