Even with the new COVID variants you’re 6 times less likely to die from Covid if you’re vaccinated with 2 shots, and 9 times less likely to die of Covid if you’re boosted, and 29 times less likely to die of Covid if you’re double boosted. These are way down because of the new COVID variants, but these numbers still represent a massive amount of protection.
Those numbers should improve this Fall when the new boosters become available.
The Biden administration plans to offer updated Covid booster shots in September.
The new vaccines will be reformulated to perform better against the now dominant, and extremely contagious, omicron subvariant BA.5, and also the BA.4 subvariant.
This last chart shows the effectiveness of 3 covid vaccines. Moderna is most effective, followed closely by the Pfizer vaccine. The least effective of the 3 was the J&J.
