True or False?

Fact checking has become a necessity in this era of Lies, Lies and more Lies. Here are a few of the many bits of misinformation spewed upon the public; each is linked to its explanatory article.

“Send your postcards to 5 key states to decertify fraud” in the 2020 election.

One of the activists pushing the postcard fraud is Janet Folger Porter, who in May lost a Republican congressional primary in Ohio.  A Facebook post by Porter invites the public to “send your postcards to 5 key states to decertify fraud TODAY at www.decertifyfraud.com.” The website charges people money to send postcards to state legislators so they can “decertify” ballots cast in the 2020 presidential election. Those five states —– Arizona, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan —–  were won by Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election. The website charges people $25 to send a postcard to Wisconsin, $50 to send to Wisconsin and Arizona and $100 to send to all five.

Donald Trump Ranked choice voting in Alaska is a “total rigged deal.”

For the general election, voters will rank the candidates by their first, second, third and fourth choice. The lowest-finishing candidates are eliminated, with their voters’ second, third and fourth choices reallocated to those candidates’ totals. The candidate who wins 50% plus 1 vote, wins the election, going as many rounds as it takes. Trump wrongly suggested that someone in fifth place could win. First, voters only rank four candidates. And while it’s theoretically possible, it’s highly unusual for a bottom-of-the-pack candidate in the first round to end up winning.

False

False per Reuters, Miscaptioned: The photographs are from October 2017 and show a day-in-the-life career event hosted by IRS Criminal Investigation at a university. The images are unrelated to false claims that IRS is hiring 87,000 armed agents with the Inflation Reduction Act.

Tulsi Gabbard Venmos Nancy Pelosi 600.01 to force the IRS to audit Pelosi’s finances.

False: The account that tweeted that apparent spat between Pelosi, D-Calif, and Gabbard, a former Democratic U.S. representative from Hawaii, regularly shares satire. It is connected to Genesius Times, a self-described satire site that claims to post “the most reliable source of fake news on the planet.” A fake story about the supposed Pelosi-Gabbard conflict was posted there.  We found no credible news reports that this actually happened.
