During private strategy sessions in September, some friends and allies of Hunter Biden are making plans to go on offense against his accusers in a GOP onslaught.
Hunter Biden’s friend and lawyer Kevin Morris suggested it was crucial for Hunter’s allies to be more aggressive, and described defamation lawsuits the team could pursue against the presidential son’s critics, including Fox News, Eric Trump and Rudy Giuliani.
Morris also was outlining extensive research on Tony Bobulinksy, Biden’s spurned business partner, and John Paul Mac Isaac, the laptop whistleblower.
There are lawyers prepared to run interference with House and federal investigations.
Hunter Biden has been intentionally taking on a more prominent public role.
Biden has been showing up more frequently at the White House, sometimes with his 2-year-old son Beau, and has recently walked his daughter Naomi down the aisle at her White House wedding.
He also appeared at the Kennedy Center Honors, and at the recent state dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron.
At one point during that dinner, Hunter Biden walked up to a group including House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and said hello to McCarthy’s mother. To some, it seemed a classic Biden-style moment of trying to charm an adversary. A McCarthy spokesman did not respond to a request for comment.
The White House Appears in Disagreement
The White House has tapped their own lawyer to make sure their response is hitting the right notes. Some in the White House prefer Hunter and allies to stay out of the limelight in order to paint the GOP investigations as a partisan attack.
Reportedly, this is the approach the White House prefers as it tries to argue that Hunter is a private citizen and thus an “inappropriate target” for Republicans. Under this line of thinking, the more Hunter engages publicly, the more the GOP will argue they have justification for coming after him, which — given his past issues with substance use and his messy business connections — could blow back on the president himself.
