With so much going on in our world, we sometimes miss important issues. Please feel free to share any headlines or new developments we may have missed providing they come from reliable and credible sources.  In other words, please do not post any missed headlines form far right ‘news’ sources or regurgitate their Russian propaganda unless you’re trying to point out that the far-right extremist in our country and elsewhere actually believe their own BS or Russian disinformation.   We also ask that you provide a link to your source so folks can read it if they want. Please do not make any claims that you cannot factually validate or verify.

Gov. A-Butt claimed that California, with strict gun legislation suffers, from more mass shootings.

Fact Check:

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which tracks firearm mortality rates by state, in 2020, the latest year with recorded data, there were 4,164 gun deaths in Texas, compared with 3,449 in California.

When taking into account that California has around 9 million more residents that Texas, according to U.S. Census Bureau estimates, as of July 2022, this means California had an average of 8.5 gun deaths per 100,000 people, while Texas has 14.2 per 100,000.

This means that, according to the 2020 figures, Texas’s gun death rate is around 67 percent higher than that of California’s, per 100,000 people.

Texas GOP confirms Rep. Bryan Slaton has resigned:

A Republican representative from East Texas resigned his position on Monday.

Rep. Bryan Slaton (R-Royse City) has resigned his position in the house following a controversy, as has been confirmed by the Texas GOP.

“The Republican Party of Texas commends the Texas House for responding swiftly and appropriately to the reprehensible actions of Representative Slaton,” they said in their statement. “The misconduct described in the General Investigative Committee Report should never be tolerated and is proper grounds for expulsion. These actions have betrayed the trust that the people of Representative Slaton’s district put in him as an elected official, and he has rightly resigned. We are encouraged that this investigation signals that the House has entered a new era of accountability where all members will be held to the same fair and high standards.”
