Good morning friends, Coffee Talkers, and free chatters. It’s another Thursday with a lot to talk about — within reason.
For example:
Today’s Topic
Watch the conversation below as a sitting congresswoman responded to a constituent’s call to execute political opponents following another constituent’s question about the penalty for treason.
It was difficult to hear the dialogue from the audience members, so here’s the transcript:
Constituent #1: “What is the penalty for treason. Ok? We know that treason has been released and nobody is prepared to answer for it. Something has got to be done. It’s treason. Our country, our Constitution has been stomped on repeatedly. …People have got to be tried for treason.”
Sporkfoot: “Yep.”
Constituent #2: “And death penalty.”
Sporkfoot: (Laughing)–“I think we’re ending on the right note.”
She’s so vile, amirite?
She’s advocated for executions of political opponents before.
She herself judged the then-Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi guilty of treason.
Is this protected under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution?
She’s crazy. And I have no background in law, nor the interpretation of the Constitution, and the First Amendment. We’re all watching many of our elected officials act against the Oath of Office they recited when sworn into office:
I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.
It’s disgusting. Marjorie Taylor Greene is disgusting.
Let’s take this as a reminder of the words written in the Constitution of News Views (or Community Guidelines):
We also will not tolerate any form of threats of violence to anyone–president, elected officials, or members of our Community—NO ONE. Don’t even post something you might find funny but others could perceive as a threat.
These are indeed uncertain times, and as today’s headlines will show, nothing good can come from posting threats of violence, and even rhetorical threats will be found in the “deleted” bin of News Views.
Let’s take our cues from the posturing of the ridiculous congresswoman from Georgia, and just …. don’t.
Do we find this a major issue in our NV community? Nope. We appreciate all of your civility and reasoned responses day after day, and look forward to many more.
Thanks,
NV Management
Let’s chat — (within reason!) — on this fine Thursday, as we await legal justice for our political opponents.
