In a previously scheduled interview with Rachel Maddow, less than an hour after Trump and 18 others were indicted in Fulton County, Hillary Clinton said she felt “profound sadness” and called the developments a “terrible moment for our country.”
Maddow: “Do you feel satisfaction in that you warned the country, essentially, that he was going to try to end democracy?”
Clinton: “The only satisfaction may be that the system is working, that all of the efforts by Donald Trump, his allies and his enablers to try to silence the truth, to try to undermine democracy have been brought into the light.”
In case you missed it, you have to watch below, which highlights the primary points of the interview.
Also in the interview, Clinton pointed out a two-pronged approach to right the ship in America.
She said Americans need to use the rule of law as well as elections “to defeat those who want to weaponize divisiveness, who want to undermine democratic values and institutions.”
“What happened on Jan. 6 — ‘Don’t believe what you saw, believe what I tell you’ — those are all the hallmarks of authoritarian, dictatorial kinds of leaders,” she said, calling 2024 a crucial moment in defeating anti-American political ideas and values.
There was also a segment about Trump and his followers exhibiting anti-American attitudes with false patriotic signals.
“When you really look at the whole network of people organizations and money that supports the kind of attitudes that Trump and those like him express, it is so anti-American in every way. And that is what shocks me, because people walk around with flags on talking about how they support him or one of his wannabe followers,” Clinton said.
