The familiar refrain that big cities are decaying and crime riddled has become a political mantra for Republicans who have no policy efficacy to run on, so they promote fear of Democratic leadership.
The real crime surge actually occurred during the pandemic in 2020, while Trump was President. At that time, Fox coverage of crime was negligible. But Fox coverage of crime skyrocketed in 2023 corresponding exactly with crime levels dropping to pre-pandemic levels.
