The fat lady just sang and the Democratic Party picked up another seat in the House of Representatives.
Democrat Tom Suozzi won the special election today in the 3rd Congressional District after the seat was vacated when the House voted to expel then-Rep. George Santos. Suozzi, a former House member, faced Republican Mazi Pilip, a Nassau County legislator and Ethiopian immigrant who served in the Israel Defense Forces. The race impacts the closely divided House, where Republicans hold only a narrow majority.
Republican Mazi Pilip concedes New York’s 3rd Congressional District race
Republican Mazi Pilip has conceded the special election to former Democratic Rep. Tom Suozzi. She said she called Suozzi and congratulated him.
The two candidates were fighting for a seat in New York’s 3rd Congressional District, which was previously held by former GOP Rep. George Santos.
In remarks from East Meadow, New York, Pilip thanked her supporters and vowed to keep fighting for them.
“You are hard workers. You love this country so let’s keep it up and we are going to continue to fight because we are not going to give up. We’re going to bring common sense government. I promise you,” Pilip said.
