Vice President Kamala Harris Officially Becomes the Democratic Party’s Nominee

Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison announced Friday that Vice President Kamala Harris has received enough pledged delegates to be the Democratic nominee for President.

The nomination will be officially announced on Monday evening following the conclusion of a virtual roll-call nomination vote from the Democratic delegates. The delegates are voting on the nomination early in order for Harris and her yet named VP pick to qualify for the Ohio ballot, as the Democratic National Convention beginning August 19th in Chicago falls after the Ohio deadline.

Harris will be the first Black woman and first Indian American ever nominated for the office of President of the United States.
