Trump to Hold Event at Site of 1939 Pro-Nazi Rally

Donald Trump is planning an October 27 rally at Madison Square Garden in New York City, known as “The World’s Most Famous Arena,” nine days before the November election.

The event is expected to be first come, first served, with Madison Square Garden’s capacity at 19,500.

According to the Trump campaign, the plan is to host “major arena rallies” in “battleground states” in the last few weeks ahead of the November 5 election. New York, of course, is not one of them.

  • Trump earned just 12.3 percent of the vote in 2020 in Manhattan, or New York County, compared to Joe Biden’s 86.8 percent.
  • He was an even bigger loser to Hillary Clinton in 2016, earning just 10% of the vote.
  • “Everything is corrupt in New York,” he said on Wednesday. “The migrants have taken over Madison Avenue. They’ve taken over Fifth Avenue. They’ve taken over the parks.”

The Garden was the venue of a pro-Nazi rally in 1939, billed as a pro-“Americanism” event.

The German American Bund held a rally with over 20,000 attendees, while anti-Nazi protesters gathered outside.

New York State Senator Brad Hoylman-Sigal denounced the intended rally on Wednesday, and encouraged Madison Square Garden to cancel the event.

The Trump campaign complained that Hoylman-Sigal’s statement was the type of “dangerous rhetoric” that led to two assassination attempts on Trump.
