Katie Porter alleges ‘persistent abuse,’ files restraining order against ex-boyfriend

Julian Willis’ alleged threats to leak “false” information to the press “poses a serious risk to my career and personal reputation,” Porter wrote. Willis said the filing was an effort to preempt his own claims against her.

Outgoing Rep. Katie Porter obtained a temporary restraining order against an ex-boyfriend, telling the court that his “persistent abuse and harassment,” including sending her and her family and staff more than 1,000 text messages and emails over three months, has caused “significant fear for [her] personal safety and well-being.”

In a petition for a domestic violence restraining order, filed Tuesday with the Orange County Superior Court, Porter alleged Julian Willis, her romantic partner of several years, sent a litany of abusive messages with the intent to cause “significant harm” to her public image.

2014 Election:

Good news is very welcome! Two House races out in CA are likely to notch flips for the Dems, shrinking the GOP House majority even further. The right is calling foul, but I’m rather enjoying what will result from this. Read more in my piece, link in the replies.

President-elect Donald Trump announced that he would nominate Dr. Jay Bhattacharya to lead the National Institutes of Health, a government agency composed of more than 18,000 employees with an annual budget of $47 billion. Bhattacharya, a professor of economics and health policy at Stanford University, has no leadership experience in either government or large organizations, but, like some other Trump nominees, he is outspoken about what he sees as the tyranny of public health restrictions and censorship on social media platforms. Bhattacharya came into prominence as a strong critic of Covid vaccine mandates, though he has said publicly that he supports some routine childhood vaccinations, including those that prevent polio and measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR).

Oligarchic power threatens democracy and effective, expert-driven governance. Remember government represents the power of the citizenry, and oligarchs and authoritarians don’t want their power checked or countered by that.

Elon Musk publicized the names of government employees he wants to cut. It’s terrifying federal workers

When President-elect Donald Trump said Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy would recommend major cuts to the federal government in his administration, many public employees knew that their jobs could be on the line.

Now they have a new fear: becoming the personal targets of the world’s richest man – and his legions of followers.

Last week, in the midst of the flurry of his daily missives, Musk reposted two X posts that revealed the names and titles of people holding four relatively obscure climate-related government positions. Each post has been viewed tens of millions of times, and the individuals named have been subjected to a barrage of negative attention. At least one of the four women named has deleted her social media account.

Holy sh*t. I just watched Jasmine Crockett's take on Trump's bullshit border czar position on CNN, and I can't stop laughing.

Pete Hegseth’s Radical Push for a Convention of States Raises Concerns

A convention of states could abolish freedoms currently guaranteed under the Constitution

Pete Hegseth, a nominee for Secretary of Defense under Donald Trump, has voiced enthusiastic support for a convention of states, a controversial proposal that has long been championed by far-right groups. Speaking during a promotional interview with his wife in June, Hegseth revealed not only his alignment with the cause but his active participation in its efforts, which included joining Zoom calls dedicated to advancing the movement and named dropped Mark Meckler, a proponent of the movement.
