The Reaction to Gaza Takeover, Foreign and Domestic

The reaction to tRump’s latest scheme to remove Palestinians from their home land, bulldoze what’s left of Gaza, and turn it into a U.S. “owned” resort has not been received well by the world, including some inside MAGA.

Without clarifying what legal authority he had to take over a sovereign territory, King MAGAT said:

“The U.S. will take over the Gaza Strip and we will do a job with it, too. We’ll own it and be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous unexploded bombs and all of the other weapons on the site.”

Trump: The US will take over the Gaza Strip… we’ll own it

Trump did not rule out deploying U.S. troops to the region, stating: “As far as Gaza is concerned, we’ll do what is necessary, if it’s necessary we’ll do that. We’re going to take over that piece and develop it, create thousands and thousands of jobs, and it’ll be something that the entire Middle East can be proud of.”

The Geneva Conventions prohibit the forcible relocation of populations. The United States and Israel have both ratified the conventions.NYT

Yet not many in the Middle East, other than Israel, appear to be on board with the plan.

The idea threatens diplomatic, normalized relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel, a U.S. ambition.

In the early morning hours Saudi Arabia released a statement of “unequivocal rejection” of attempts to displace Palestinians, and reiterated that it would not establish diplomatic ties with Israel in the absence of an independent Palestinian state.

Saudi Arabia said it would not establish ties with Israel without the creation of a Palestinian state, contradicting President Donald Trump's claim that Riyadh was not demanding a Palestinian homeland when he said the US wants to take over the Gaza Strip reut.rs/4aIuIXz

Saudi Arabia was joined by several countries in opposition.

  • Egypt’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement stressing the need for rebuilding “without moving the Palestinians out of the Gaza Strip.”
  • The prime ministers of Australia and Ireland, foreign ministries from China, New Zealand and Germany, and a Kremlin spokesman all reiterated support for a two-state solution.

Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, France, Spain, Russia, China, Germany, Ireland, and the UK have all rejected Trump's call for the US to take over Gaza.

There were also reactions from Republicans.

Senator Lady G. chose his words carefully, saying Trump’s proposal to “take over” Gaza “problematic,” and that he does not think his constituents would be excited about sending U.S. soldiers to take control of the region.

Senator Thom Tillis said there were “a few kinks in that slinky.”

Senator Josh Hawley does not “think it’s the best use of United States resources to spend a bunch of money in Gaza.” He added that he would “prefer that to be spent in the United States first.”

Senate Majority Leader John Thune was careful to gently caress Trump’s ass while saying that he hadn’t seen the statement, but that “I think we’re obviously all interested in facilitating a solution to the Middle East, particularly with the whole situation in Gaza.”

“How we best achieve that I think is still—it’s a subject of conversation, sounds like he’s got an idea on that,” he added.

Texas Senator John Cornyn said that “I don’t really know what to make of that” and joked that reporters should check back with him on Wednesday.

FFS…

The usual suspects unapologetically kissed the Royal Ring.

Republican Congresswoman Nancy Mace calls to “turn Gaza into Mar-A-Lago”

Three-toed Congresswoman MTG tweeted and deleted: “Under President Trump, America will be the beacon of PEACE for the world! It’s time to change the Middle East in pursuit of ending endless war, and this is EXACTLY how it’s done!”

Texas MAGAt Congressman Brandon Gill had thoughts: “President Trump is bringing peace to the Middle East, just as he promised. PROMISES KEPT.”

Confused Senator John Fetterman called Trump’s comments “provocative” but added, “it’s part of a conversation and that’s where we are.”

And Michigan Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib called out Trump’s idea as bullshit and ethnic cleansing, but still blamed others. Tlaib refused to endorse Kamala Harris.

Donald Trump announces completely unapologetically that he’s going to displace all the Palestinians, bulldoze Gaza, occupy it and turn it into Fucking Mar-a-Lago and my feed is full of my fellow Arab of Americans blaming it on….Biden and Harris.I can’t. I just fucking can’t.
