It appears another disaster in the skies has taken place, this time along the coastline of Alaska, as a search is underway for a plane that went missing with 10 people on board on Thursday.
A Cessna 208 Caravan, on Bering Air Flight 445, left Unalakleet, Alaska, about 2:40 p.m. local time with nine passengers and a pilot, according to Alaska’s Department of Public Safety.
The single-engine turboprop disappeared from radar and lost radio contact with air traffic control and the airline around 3:20 p.m., roughly 10 minutes before it was scheduled to arrive in Nome. The plane was 12 miles off shore at its last known location.

The disappearance marks the third major incident in U.S. aviation in eight days.
Search crews and aircraft from the Coast Guard, the National Guard and the U.S. Air Force were working to locate the plane, according to Nome officials.
