Democrats Plan Reactions to Trump’s Speech tonight

Democrats are choosing different ways to respond to Donald Trump’s speech tonight according to Axios.

For example: Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.), one of the most senior Democrats in the Senate, will not attend Trump’s speech on Tuesday, Axios has learned. Neither will Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), who will instead host an online town hall.

Alternatively, some Democratic leaders have asked lawmakers to show up to the speech with people affected by DOGE and Trump’s federal funding freeze. They have a guest list that they hope will showcase what they argue are the harms of Trump’s first month in office.

But other Democrats told us last week that they saw no reason to participate in the speech while the AP notes: “The Democrats’ guests also include at least one government watchdog dismissed by Trump in his bid to emplace loyalists across positions of influence.

Raw Story reports, “House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) warned Democrats to “respect” President Donald Trump when he addresses a joint session of Congress this week. “Are you expecting the Democrats to put on some kind of a resistance show on Tuesday night?” Fox News host Maria Bartiromo asked Johnson in an interview on Sunday.”Boy, I hope not,” the speaker cautioned. “I hope they respect the decorum of the institution. It’s really important.”

“Outside Washington, the latest round of public protest against Trump and his administration also was unfolding Tuesday. Loosely coordinated groups planned demonstrations in all 50 states and the District of Colombia timed to Trump’s address.” AP
