Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau condemned Dumb Donald’s Tariffs imposed on his country and vowed to “relentlessly fight” to protect Canada’s economy. Trudeau said a trade war would hurt people on both sides of the U.S.-Canada border.
Trudeau began by addressing the American people, and blamed the American government for inflicting a trade war and its fallout.
Trudeau: "I want to speak first directly to the American people. We don't want this. We want to work with you as a friend and ally. We don't want to see you hurt either. But your government has chosen to do this to you. As of this morning, markets are down and inflation is set to rise dramatically."
Trudeau: "We're probably gonna keep booing the American anthem. But let me tell Americans: we're not booing you … we're booing a policy that is designed to hurt us. And we're insulted … we're gonna fight. And we're gonna win."
But Trudeau was visibly angry as he looked directly at the camera and addressed Trump repeatedly as “Donald” and called him out for betraying an ally while seeking closer relations with Russia’s Putin, a murderous dictator.
Trudeau: "Now I want to speak directly to one specific American. Donald…it's not in my habit to agree with the WSJ, but Donald, they point out that even though you're a very smart guy, this is a very dumb thing to do. We friends fighting is exactly what our opponents around the world want to see."
Trudeau added that he would challenge the Trump Tariffs at the World Trade Organization and through the free trade agreement covering the two countries — the one drawn up and implemented by Trump.
Trudeau said that measures by Canada have brought fentanyl seizures at the border to “a near-zero low of less than half an ounce,” saying they stepped up and “did everything we promised.”
Trudeau: "What Trump said yesterday that there is nothing Canada or Mexico can do to avoid these tariffs underlines very clearly what I think a lot of us have suspected for a long time: that these tariffs are not specifically about fentanyl even though that's the legal justification he must use"
