Former central bank chief Mark Carney won the support of Canada’s Liberal Party on Sunday night as the Justin Trudeau era comes to a close.
Carney won the support of a whopping 85 percent of Liberal Party members following a two-month leadership contest. Carney, 59, is an experienced technocrat who guided the Canadian economy through the 2008 global crash and then the U.K. economy through the turmoil of Brexit.
“The Americans want our resources, our water, our land, our country,” Carney warned his countrymen in a victory speech.
Carney is expected to have his first call with Trump this week, possibly as early as today, to discuss the tit-for-tat tariff/trade war and the bizarre desire to annex Canada as the 51st state.
The Trump Bump
Since Trump’s threats, the Liberal Party has enjoyed an unprecedented political recovery (like no one has ever seen) with federal elections looming. Voters appear to be now rallying to the incumbent party, with the Conservatives being painted ideologically close to Trump and Elon Musk and losing ground on what was once a 20 point lead in the polls.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum also enjoys an 85% approval rating, thanks to Trump.
