Gavin Newsom Taking Criticism Over Podcast Guest Steve Bannon

Potential presidential candidate Gov. Gavin Newsom is drawing some heat for inviting the MAGA orchestrator Steve Bannon onto his podcast, This Is Gavin Newsom.

During the podcast, Bannon repeated the Big Lie about Bigly Don winning in 2020, and Newsom did not correct him.

CNN’s Dana Bash notes that Gavin Newsom allowed Steve Bannon to lie about the results of the 2020 election and didn’t correct him.

But here’s more back and forth between the two:

Newsom is definitely getting attention for the tactical strategy.

Gov. Andy Beshear of Kentucky, had this to say:

“I think that Governor Newsom bringing on different voices is great; we shouldn’t be afraid to talk and to debate just about anyone,” Beshear said at a House Democratic retreat in Virginia. “But Steve Bannon espouses hatred and anger, and even at some points violence, and I don’t think we should give him oxygen on any platform, ever, anywhere.”

Gov. Newsom responded to Beshear:

Newsom said it was “critically important” to understand Trump and Trumpism, adding: “I think we all agreed after the last election that it’s important for Democrats to explore new and unique ways of talking to people.”

Former Republican Congressman Adam Kinzinger was not happy either:

I am in shock at the stupidity of @gavinnewsom.bsky.social inviting Steve Bannon on his podcast. Many of us on the right sacrificed careers to fight Bannon, and Newsom is trying to make a career and a presidential run by building him up. Unforgivable and insane
