Kristen Welker asked TFF in an NBC News phone interview about the Wall Street Journal’s report that he warned automakers from raising prices on their vehicles after a 25% tariff on foreign cars and car parts goes into effect.
“No, I never said that,” Trump told Welker.
On Thursday, the WSJ reported that Trump threatened the CEOs of GM, Stellantis, and Ford with even heftier tariffs if they raised prices.
TFF also said he would negotiate the tariffs down “only if people are willing to give us something of great value. Because countries have things of great value. Otherwise, there’s no room for negotiation.”
