Gotion Inc., a China-connected battery manufacturer that Michigan Republicans repeatedly attacked Democrats for being tied to during the 2024 campaign donated $1 million to Donald Trump’s inaugural fund.
Top Michigan Republicans excoriated Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Democrats who were incentivizing the battery parts plant in Northern Michigan for the sake of more than 2300 jobs.
Republicans hammered away at the issue, insisting that Michigan Democrats were in bed with the China Communist Party.

JD Vance campaigned in the county where the Gotion plant was being built, and Trump himself blasted the project.
“The Gotion plant would be very bad for the State and our Country,” Trump said in August. “It would put Michiganders under the thumb of the Chinese Communist Party in Beijing.”
National Republicans accused Michigan Democratic candidates of accepting contributions from “Gotion’s foreign agents” associated with the project and signing NDAs about the project.
