The 🤡 Clown House 🤡:

The House strikes a blow against California in a fight over EVs

The U.S. House of Representatives has voted to undo three federal waivers that let California set strict vehicle pollution standards. On Wednesday, the House voted against two waivers involving heavy trucking, and on Thursday, it voted to reverse a state rule that would require all new vehicles in the state to be zero-emission by 2035.

Two nonpartisan government entities have advised Congress that it can’t actually reverse those waivers through the mechanism it’s using. The Senate now needs to decide whether to follow that guidance — or follow the House.

The Economy and TFF’s War on Christmas:

worth keeping in mind as we discuss Trump's tanking numbers that most people haven't even really felt the pain of tariffs yet. Walmart shoppers are likely in for a rude awakening soon.

The Fascist Felon, Elmo, DOGEbags, and their Brownshirts:

Deported to Cuba, mom says she never had an ‘option’ to take her 17-month-old daughter with her

Heidy Sánchez, who’s married to a U.S. citizen who was trying to get her a green card, was detained and later deported after an ICE check-in.

Heidy Sánchez was so distraught that she got on the rooftop of a house in Havana to get Wi-Fi connection and send her daughter a bedtime lullaby via WhatsApp.

The Tampa-area mother was deported to Cuba last week without her 17-month-old U.S.-citizen daughter, who has a history of seizures and was still being breastfed, she and her lawyers told NBC News.

WSJ: Tesla officially launched a search to replace Elon Musk as CEO

Elon Musk Melts Down Over Report That Tesla Is Considering Replacing Him

Musk and Tesla say they told The Wall Street Journal its report of a headhunt was false. The WSJ says no such statement was provided

Elon Musk is pushing back on a report that his flagship company Tesla is looking to replace him as CEO after months of absenteeism in favor of his work as head of the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) — and a decidedly inefficient first quarter for Tesla.

On Wednesday, The Wall Street Journal reported that as of several weeks ago, Tesla’s board of directors had taken exploratory steps towards finding a suitable replacement, including by reaching out to executive recruitment firms. They had also warned Musk that he needed to refocus on the company.

Last month, Tesla reported a 71-percent cliff dive in earnings for the first quarter of 2024. Year-over-year revenue fell nine percent, and total earnings dropped from $1.4 billion in the first quarter of last year to $409 million in the first quarter this year. The value of Tesla’s stock has also plummeted more than $120 since Trump’s inauguration, erasing all of its post-election gains and then some.

Army leaders to Musk: We will DOGE ourselves

Two top Army officials are proposing to eliminate Humvees and cut other costs in the hope it will allow generals, not DOGE, to decide where and how to cut spending.

Under pressure to make drastic budget cuts, Army leaders have struck an unusual agreement with Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency: Don’t DOGE us; we will DOGE ourselves.

The process began at a March White House meeting attended by Vice President JD Vance, a Marine veteran; Army Secretary Dan Driscoll; and the Army chief of staff, Gen. Randy George, three defense officials familiar with the matter told NBC News.

Soon after the meeting began, Musk joined them. Together, the four men discussed Driscoll and George’s plans to cut hundreds of millions of dollars in what they and other Army officials agree is wasteful spending. The two men’s goal is to cut jobs, consolidate commands and radically change the Army acquisition process, the three officials said.
